Our solution: LC500C Load Compensation Unit
Site: Mill Court, Kilmarnock
Energy type: Gas
Trial date: January 2009
Trialed on: 2 x Hamworthy HE 140 gas fired boiler
Result: 14.44% saving

Hanover Housing Association (Scotland) provide and manage a range of specialist housing for older and frail people in Scotland.

In an attempt to reduce heating costs Graham Bennie (Energy Manager) decided to evaluate the merits of fitting Enersol load compensation units. It was decided to use the large commercial heating boilers in the Kilmarnock sheltered housing property that utilises district heating.

2 x Enersol LC units with hours run meters were installed on the 2 Hamworthy HE 140 gas fired boilers at Mill Court. The units were switched daily between save and bypass modes and the hours run were recorded each day by Ms Violet Hutchinson the scheme manageress.

The evaluation was undertaken for a month in Jan 2009. Results indicated savings of 14.44%. The weather during this trial period was harsh and often below freezing. Despite this heavy load on the heating plant Enersol are confident the overall saving will exceed their conservative projection of 15%

Result of the trial conducted at Mill Court, Kilmarnock for Hanover Housing.

The current heating spend for Mill Court is approx £6500 based on a current gas price of only 1.477p / KWH which is well below the typical Scottish commercial gas price of 2.6p/KWH.
